Math Talk at Home

A great way to help your child to see the connection between math and the real world is to integrate mathematical concepts into conversations. Ask your kindergartener questions like these to make connections between what they learn in class this year and the world around them:

  • How many? How do you know?

  • If there was one more _____ (eg. person at the breakfast table), how many would there be? How do you know?

  • If there was one less _____ (eg. person at the breakfast table), how many would there be? How do you know?

  • Are there more ____ or ______? How do you know?

  • What shape is it?
